As we all know, music is the organization of sound to create compilations of form, melody, rhythm, or expressive content. Music can be of many types, such as classical, pop, jazz, rock, and more. One of the prominent music genres is K-POP.
K-POP, or Korean Pop, is a well-known music genre originating from South Korea. It became popular in the 1990s and is an element of youth subcultures. Korean musicians incorporate influences from Western dance music, contemporary R&B, hip-hop, and rock. This essay discusses BTS, a notable K-POP group that will have a comeback next month, June this year after a three-year hiatus and military service.
BTS, also known as Bangtan Boys or Bangtan Sonyeondan in Korean (Hanja), is a South Korean boy band that debuted in 2013. The band consists of seven members: Jin (Kim Seok Jin), RM (Kim Nam Joon), J-Hope (Jung Ho Seok), Suga (Min Yoon Gi), Jimin (Park Ji Min), V (Kim Tae Hyung), and Jungkook (Jeon Jung Kook). J-Hope signifies the group's name as a way to defy stereotypes and expectations imposed on youth, like how bulletproof attire offers protection. Known as Bōdan Shōnendan in Japanese (Kanji), BTS extended their name to "Beyond the Scene" in 2017, reflecting growth from childhood to adulthood. Their fandom name is ARMY, and their team color is purple. The band writes and produces its own music, which originally focused on hip-hop but has since expanded to various genres while addressing themes like mental health, youth struggles, self-love, individualism, and identity.
BTS was formed in 2010 by
Bang Si-Hyuk, CEO and founder of Big Hit Entertainment, who wanted to create a
hip-hop group centered around RM, a popular underground rapper in Seoul. Due to
declining physical album sales and insufficient digital revenues, Bang Si-Hyuk
decided to form an idol band for live performances and fan support. Despite
initial opposition from trainees, RM, J-Hope, and Suga remained. Bang Si-Hyuk
chose to let the members express themselves freely rather than conforming to
highly restricted band norms. After rigorous training and preparations, BTS
debuted in 2013.
Throughout their career,
BTS has released multiple successful albums, such as "Dark and Wild"
(2014), "Wings" (2016), and "Map of The Soul: 7" (2020).
Their most-streamed album is "Proof," released in 2022 before their
hiatus for solo projects and mandatory services. BTS's impact extends beyond
music, featuring films like "Burn the Stage: The Movie" (2018) and
engaging in political and diplomatic activities. On May 31, 2022, BTS visited
the White House to discuss anti-Asian hate and discrimination during the
Covid-19 pandemic. They have collaborated with various brands, including Louis
Vuitton, Samsung, Hyundai, Seoul Tourism Ambassador, Coway, Kloud, PUMA, SNOW
App, MEDIHEAL, FILA, Baskin Robbins, McDonald’s, and Mattel.
Among BTS members,
Jungkook (Jeon Jung Kook) stands out as the main vocalist, lead dancer,
sub-rapper, center, and the youngest member. Born on September 1, 1997, in
Busan, South Korea, Jungkook pursued his music career from a young age,
supported by his family. After being selected as a trainee by Big Hit
Entertainment, he trained in Los Angeles and appeared in music videos before
debuting. Jungkook has achieved numerous awards and global recognition with
BTS. During the band's hiatus, he released a solo album, "Golden,"
and modeled for brands such as Calvin Klein, XBOX, and Godiva.
In conclusion, BTS has made significant contributions to the music industry and gained worldwide fame. Their upcoming comeback in June this year is highly anticipated by fans. BTS, Hope you have an outstanding reunition, and remember to go to Malaysia for concert when you announce your world tour next year💟💟💟💟💟
