Environment, My Friend

When I was a child, my parents and I resided in a house situated within a jungle. During their busy hours at work, I spent my childhood engaged in activities such as climbing trees and swimming in a nearby river. At that time, the animals thrived and played joyfully, the river was pristine, and the flora presented an exquisite view. The diverse and neatly "arranged" vegetation showcased the profound beauty of nature. Observing these elements instilled a deep appreciation for the environment.

However, after several years, a drastic change occurred. One morning, upon finishing my routine and having breakfast, I stepped outside and was taken aback by the absence of trees and wildlife. Men were loading logs onto trucks, cutting down trees, and contaminating the river with oil, toxic waste, and rubbish. This devastation prompted the animals to flee to escape the destruction of their habitat. I promptly reported this incident to my parents. My father suggested relocating while contacting the police to address the situation, and my mother instructed me to pack my belongings. Consequently, we moved to the city transition that left me despondent as I could no longer see the wildlife I cherished. The urban environment, dominated by buildings, factories, and vehicles, produced fumes that were detrimental to my health. The limited presence of nature and wildlife contrasted starkly with the jungle's vibrant ecosystem.

Reflecting on these changes, it becomes evident that environmental pollution is a significant concern, encompassing water, air, land, and sound pollution. Addressing these issues requires proactive measures:

Firstly, my family and I engage in planting flowers, trees, and vegetables around our house, contributing to cleaner air and fostering a sense of vitality. We participate in reforestation programs organized by governmental and non-governmental organizations. Additionally, we avoid pesticides and herbicides, opting for manual methods to manage pests and weeds. Utilizing rice water and recycled water for irrigation further conserves resources. We practice waste segregation and recycling, repurposing items like old tires and plastic bottles into flowerpots and used paper into decorative origami. Our non-smoking household remains clean and safe.

Moreover, we support initiatives to clean housing areas near rivers and beaches, actively participating in waste disposal efforts. We refrain from purchasing items made from endangered species and report such cases to authorities. Government action is crucial in preserving the environment; heavy penalties were imposed on those responsible for deforestation in our former home, as we learned from news reports. Collaborating with organizations like Worldwide Fund (WWF), we have successfully replanted trees, restoring natural habitats and witnessing the return of wildlife.

While living in the city limits my interaction with nature, I advocate for environmental protection through social media platforms and blogs, raising awareness and encouraging public participation.

In conclusion, nature is a precious creation that warrants our collective efforts for preservation. Protecting the environment is akin to honoring the elements bestowed upon us, embodying the sentiment: "Our Earth, Our Lover."
