“Our Earth, Our Lover” (By: Carys)

When I was a little girl, my parents and I lived in a house that is located inside the jungle. When they were hectic at work, I spent my childhood playing, climbing trees, and swimming in a river that is located a stone threw away from my house. That time, I could see, the animals lived and played gleefully. The river was as clear as the mirror. The flowers, from my standpoint, were picturesque to look at. Same goes to the greeneries, they were of many types and “decorated” neatly. It shows how earnest and strong the beauty of nature and the jungle was. For readers, when you look at it, are you fond of it? In my opinion, then is a yes.

I lived there for many years, but something altered, and the bad news arrived. That day, when I woke up, after tidying up myself and having breakfast, I walked outside and took a look. I was shocked. Where were the trees? Where were the animals? I ran outside to search. I could only see, the men were carrying up the logs towards the back of the lorry. Some of them cut down the trees, shot and killed some animals, while some of them spilled some oils, toxic wastes and rubbishes to the river. Such a pitiful and furious scene. How could they do these? Some of the animals ran away just to escape from the loss of their own habitat and the traps of the men. Therefore, I quickly ran back home and reported this case to my parents. They knew it. My father suggested moving our home to another place, then he called the police to hinder the case from happening, while my mother asked me to keep up all my own items before making a move. Later then, we were forced to move and live in the city. This made me feeling blue as I could not see my “old friends” anymore. Living in the city was an eyesore for me. I could only see, they are all tall buildings, the factories and the cars. The toxic fumes produced that I smelled were all just like “ghosts” for me. I was nearly sick. I wanted to seek a place to inhale fresh air from the trees, but they were all limited. No animals for me to look at or play with during my leisure time. If yes, I could only see some domestic animals, like cats and dogs. The weather was not like in the jungle. It was so sweltering. At night, I could see most of the tall buildings lit up. It was seen to be fascinating. Notwithstanding, it hurt my eyes a lot. It made me ought to check my eyes frequently and wore spectacles till now.

Looking at the comparisons above, readers, what do you think of? The answer is just right away to disclose-----------------------------------Environmental pollution. There are myriad types of pollution, which are water pollution, air pollution, land pollution and sound pollution. To settle this case, what measures should be taken to refrain them from happening?

First and foremost, my parents and I work together to plant more flowers and trees around our house. We even plant vegetables. Besides low cost, it provides refreshing air that makes us feel invigorated. We support and participate in reforestation programmes organized by governmental or non-governmental organizations in certain areas. For vegetables, we do not use pesticides and herbicides to spray. Instead, we use forceps to captivate pests and pull the weeds. We also use rice water, used, or dirty water to water the plants. Besides that, we turn off the tap and switch when not in utilize. This aids in saving electricity and water. We segregate our waste at home. Some of them are used for recycling at the recycling centre. Some of the waste is made into new items, like old tyres and plastic bottles into flowerpots, old and used papers into origami statues for decorations. We are non-smokers. Thus, our house is always clean, harmonious and safe to live.

Not only that, but we also support and participate in cleaning the housing areas around the rivers and beach programmes. We sweep the floors, pick up some waste and toss them into the waste bins. Apart from that, when we see items that are made from endangered species, we neither purchase nor use them. We report to the police to solve it rapidly. Besides citizens, like us, governments play an essential role in preserving the environment. For the case of the destroyed forests as mentioned above, the police had already arrested the men and gave them heavy penalties. This was shown when my parents and I watched the news. The case was partially done. But, how to settle the “bald” natural homeland? Before that, we followed a non-governmental organization named Worldwide Fund (WWF) to replant all the trees, and they all grew tremendously. Great news was approaching. My childhood animal friends were back. Now, since I live in the city, I do not have more time to play with them, but during my leisure time, I will ask my parents to accompany me to go back to the forests we used to stay in. I could have fun playing with the animals. In my shoes, I adorned a poster online and posted it on social media like Facebook and Instagram. I print out the posters I made and distribute to the crowds in the environmental protection fairs in conjunction with Earth’s Day. I even write some blogs about environmental preservation and conservation. Many people like my products. This aids in increasing the awareness of environmental protection among crowds.

To conclude, natures are “mystical” elements that are created by the “gods”. Therefore, we should cooperate and take some prominent measures in protecting the environment before they are extinct. This is because, when we save the environment, we are like cherishing the element’s gods provide us. As the saying goes, “Our Earth, Our Lover.”
